ShaQer mechanical pollination system

For pollination in greenhouses and for growing tomatoes in particular bumblebees are often used. This very natural and simple way of pollination provides very good results. Unfortunately the use of bumblebees for pollination is not possible or allowed everywhere.

 

For seed selection companies using the bumblebees is not always possible. Because of the small areas and the diversity of crops in the greenhouse, the chances of cross-pollination are very high. In these cases pollination will be performed by using so called vibrating sticks. This process is very labor intensive.

 

In Australia and New Zealand, the pollination is also done by hand. The use of bumblebees is not allowed here, because the bumblebee aren’t naturally present in these parts of the world. Stringent safety requirements relating to diseases and pests close the door on importing these bumblebees.

 

Pellikaan now has a solution to this labor-intensive manual pollination. This automatic vibratory system, named shaQer let the crop wires automatically vibrate with the help of a small motor and a across the greenhouse tensioned vibration wire. This new system requires only a small investment and instantly delivers large labor savings.

shaQer is part of the Qlipr System

The Automatic Pollination System has the crop wires vibrate with a motor and a tightened vibration wire. The system provides a solution in countries where no bees can be imported or where bees sometimes stop work owing to the heat. This form of pollination is also useful to refiners for seed selection purposes.

Qlipr combined with vibrating wires is an excellent solution to labour-intensive manual pollination. Qlipr is a sustainable and easy-to-use clamping system for cucumber- and tomato plants, which works competitive compared to existing cultivation systems.

Qlipr consists out of a crop hook with a length of 120 cm long (other lengths upon request), with two stainless steel clamps, equipped with a special developed foam insert piece. From single to multiple wire systems; Qlipr offers many application possibilities. Working with moveable wire, Qlipr is an excellent system for you. Qlipr can also be used for the traditional cucumber cultivation, because the clamp is able to be used on decomposable jute rope.

Protected Cropping Australia director Graeme Smith said the automated pollinator should deliver savings, as manual pollination cost about $25,000/ha/year and bumblebee pollination cost $7000/ha/year.
